1st Internationalist Youth Festival in Greece

Athens, 11-13 July 2008

The world is ours!

The Internationalist Youth Festival "Resistance 2008" aims to constitute a meeting place for movements, organizations and resisting people from all over the world. In order to get to know better the struggles that rock the planet, to make relations of solidarity and support, to coordinate our resistances. The voice of all people fighting the savagery that threatens our lives can and must grow stronger. The youth plays a leading part in the small and big battles that dispute the power of the system. The history is written through the struggles, the needs and the dreams of millions of young people. Today, that capitalism is not convincing as the only possible world, let's dare to open the discussion for a totally different society, for the socialism of the 21st century.

Resistance 2008 – 1st Internationalist Youth Festival:

Statement of the Organizing Committee

Resistance 2008, the 1st Internationalist Youth Festival organized by KOE in Athens from 11 to 13 July 2008, has been successfully concluded. According to the calculations of the Organizing Committee, based on the tickets sold and the invitations used, a total of more than 8.000 entrances have taken place during the three days of the Festival: 4.000 on Friday, 2.800 on Saturday and 2.000 on Sunday (taking into account that we are in the season of summer vacations and weekend escapades, the participation exceeded by far the initial moderate expectations). They had the opportunity to be informed by KOE and the foreign delegations about the struggles in Greece and all over the world, to interact and exchange opinions, to visit dozens of information stands, to celebrate and enjoy the music concerts, to savour a series of traditional Greek, Turkish and African plates in the taverns of the Festival. The Resistance 2008 Festival was a highly politicized event, which gathered dozens of foreign delegations from the Balkans, Middle East, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas and offered the participants a genuine internationalist and militant atmosphere.

We, the delegations participating in Resistance 2008 - 1st Internationalist Youth Festival, which was successfully organized by KOE in Athens from 11 to 13 July 2008, declare the following:

  • We will keep on and intensify our resolute struggle against the common enemies of the working class, the youth and the peoples around the world.
  • We will continue fighting against repression, which had as a result that several invited persons and delegations, and especially Comrade Leila Khaled and the Basque Comrades from SEGI, were prevented from being with us in this Festival.

The organising committee of Resistance 2008 - 1st Internationalist Youth Festival, which will be held in the Agricultural University of Athens on July 11-12-13, announces that Leila Khaled will participate in the festival as one of the main speakers.

Leila Khaled is among the protagonists of the Palestinian Resistance. She contributed to spread all over the world the -then ignored- drama of the Palestinian people through the bloodless airplane hijack of 1969, in which she participated as a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
